MA graduate of the Royal Danish Academy, Asger Beyer believes dress should counterbalance the mundanity of our everyday life. Inspired by children playing dress up and by fairytales of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, the whimsical collection fuses the ideas of escapist transformation from a dreary every day to fairytale worlds. Beyer’s appreciation of opera and ballet infuses drama of the stage into the work that combines tulle sewn in multiple layers on crinolines to create large gowns, held with light corsetry. The tulle looks are merged with contemporary shapes. Denim trompe l'oeil is created by layering different coloured tulle onto each other and completing them with traditional denim finishing to balance the fairytale with the contemporary.
