’Miss France’

Finalist Bror August Vestbø, an MA-graduate of Oslo National Academy of the Arts, has re-worked discarded clothes into new looks by altering their function and re-composing them. As an avid collector of vintage, Bror August has repurposed vintage clothes that challenge the concept of taste and have unresolved potential. The collection entitled “Miss France” is inspired by a previous pageant queen and now vintage shopkeeper, Miss France. She loves her collection of clothes and objects so much that she will only agree to sell if she believes it's the perfect item for you. The collection is modelled on a character who continuously recreates a collection of clothing as a way to explore the full potential of garments and objects by letting them evolve with a new wearer and context. Created in collaboration with Benjamin Barron, the collection speaks volumes of past narratives and identities that are embedded into the garments that now exist in a new framework of meaning. The result is a “cocktail of different styles” in a collage of items that allows for dressing up, without having to commit to one style only.
