2020 Exhibition Prize
Exhibition Prize is awarded to five designers who will exhibit in the glass display cases at the outdoor plaza in front Designmuseum Danmark. They are selected on their skills, concept, aesthetic vision and ability to communicate in an exhibition context. Based on their existing collections, they will be commissioned to create new site-specific work for their individual display cases.
The jury’s statement:
“Amina Saada’s ‘Wearable Sculptures’ are created with high levels of artistry, concept and craftsmanship. Courtney Makins’ ‘Absent Bodies’, created with a sugar-based, eco-friendly coating that can be washed away and return the sculptures to functional dresses, provide us with a new perspective on wearable art. Oliver Oppermann’s crucial focus on mental health, using dead stock fabric, reminds us that the fashion industry bears a great responsibility to the people it employs. Fredrik Stålhandske’s humoristic characters that reveal hidden masculine identities is a testament to the role play that we all engage in when putting on clothes. Ishara Jayathilake’s poignant collection offers a new, post-colonial, empowering Sri Lankan dress practice yet moves across East and West.”
