’MANIFESTO Greatest Hits’

The work of Frederik Taus is rooted in queer culture and pays tribute to the struggles of queer and non-binary minorities. Based on an activist manifesto, the collection of the MA-graduate of the Royal Danish Academy inhabits an odd world of abnormal shoulders, big collars, safety pins and slogan t-shirts. It references fashion history, punk and classic gendered pieces of clothing such as tuxedo shirts and pencil skirts. Breaking gender norms and poking fun of the rich, the collection is based on a clash of opposites such as the sartorial codes of the wealthy establishment and DIY punk culture; femininity and masculinity, but these dichotomies are also evident in materials and techniques: A tailleur suit in deadstock wool boucle deteriorating at the hems adorned with fake monopoly money notes, bondage trousers, a “MANIFESTO” monogram tartan print, and an oversize tuxedo shirt with ruffles and cuffs in a pink cotton poplin. As elevated DIY, safety pins have been applied as a multifunctional feature as both embellishment and providing the garments with multiple functions.

Frederik has been selected by Ida Petersson, buying director at Browns Fashion, to design a capsule collection for the store. Frederik will be welcomed into the Browns family and receive all-encompassing mentorship, through pre-payment as well as educating, consulting, showcasing and selling his work on an international scale. ”I was lucky enough to see some of Frederik’s work last August in person and was immediately drawn to his designs. Frederik is not afraid of experimenting, and in the beauty of his creations there is also a sense of fun and mischief, which is why I think he will be a great fit for Browns,” says Ida Petersson.
