Magasin x ALPHA

As the second installment of our talent collaboration with Magasin du Nord, we invited STEM and Emma Gudmundson to take over the windows of the department store with their zero-waste designs. The window displays draw attention to the craft and hard work that go into creating responsible garments. STEM’s Sarah Brunnhuber has developed an innovative weaving system that straddles the whole process from design to production and Emma Gudmundson’s intricate, colourful knitted dresses with no cutaways demonstrate the work of the hand. Through collaborations with heavyweights Ganni and Browns Fashion, the award-winning designers have already made a mark on international fashion. STEM and Emma Gudmundson have also created a limited edition of unique scarves and bags that can be purchased at Magasin.

STEM

STEM by Sarah Brunnhuber has developed innovative weaving system that bridges the whole process from design to production where nothing goes to waste. What is usually cut off is integrated into STEM’s design as fringes, and the pattern pieces are part of fabric where everything is used. STEM is based on a pre-order and no-stock strategy.

Emma Gudmundson

Emma Gudmundson’s work is created in a process of trial and error on the domestic knitting machine. Her work is zero-waste, and her figure-hugging silhouettes are inspired by underwater creatures, as though floating on their wearer’s body. Her main techniques are floats and hook-up stitches that together create a 3D surface.
