Marie-Louise Guldbæk Andersen

Browns Fashion Buying Director Ida Petersson has selected Marie-Louise Guldbæk Andersen to develop a collection for the retailer. Marie-Louise receives a mentorship that is all-encompassing, through pre-payment, educating, consulting, showcasing and selling the collection on an international scale. “Marie-Louise’s design challenges the concept of masculinity adding to a very important debate that is at the forefront of men’s fashion today and a subject very close to Browns’ heart. Upfront the craftsmanship and attention to detail is exceptional and I fell in love with her approach to slow fashion, taking time to do something thoroughly and properly is rare today and should be treasured. I’m very excited to explore Marie-Louise’s world further and look forward to introducing her to Browns customers,” says Ida Petersson.

Created with a meticulous material-based approach, Marie-Louise Guldbæk Andersen’s dark and sombre menswear collection presents an array of techniques: weaving, knitting, draping and tailoring. Spanning a breadth of inspiration of celebrated male icons, including Louis the 14th, the outlaw Ned Kelly and the 80s Buffalo Collective, the collection celebrates rebellious style and self-expression. Whilst menswear - as well as womenswear – has inarguably been under dress restrictions and coded rules, it has also been through a quiet revolution. Abandoning menswear stereotypes, the Royal Danish Academy graduate wants to bring a female perspective to menswear with a collection designed to make men feel desirable, unique, beautiful and confident, whilst finding strength in fragility and vulnerability. Andersen has done so by deconstructing iconic male garments such as the tank top, the bomber jacket and the suit, and combining these with knitted lace, transparent and flowy textiles, and voluminous silhouettes, offering new opportunities for male self-expression.
