Exploring history and heritage, finalist Sara Sofie Tallaksen’s collection is cued by her own coming of age. Adolescence is often marked by complex inner struggles of both longing to fit in and stand out where fashion is used as a visual instrument to communicate one’s identity. Tallaksen, a graduate of Oslo National Academy of the Arts, has used thrifted and preloved garments that she has a personal relation to. These include Norwegian knitwear (kofte and mariusgenser), old band T-shirts and kids wear. Through these items, the collection straddles childhood, upbringing and memory. Yet, the garments are re-contextualised and combined with new materials such as latex, satin and rubber bands, and her work thus revisits and distorts traditional Norwegian knitwear.
